FIELD/RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
- Molecular Biological Analysis of Orangutan Blood Samples Collected from Orangutans During the Summer of 2003-During approximately 9 months of laboratory experience I was given basic training in a number of molecular biological techniques such as PCR, Cloning and Bioinformatics.
2004 - 2005 - Kalimantan Tengah, Indonesia - I was in charge of updating the enrichment materials used for psychological enhancement in the night cages used to house orphaned orangutans. This included enrichment material design, construction and set-up.
2004 Summer - Thesis Research in Kalimantan Tengah, Indonesia-Malaria in Ex - Captive Bornean Orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus ssp.) Housed at the Orangutan Care Center and Quarantine, Pasir Panjang, Kalimantan Tengah, Indonesia.
2003 Summer - Kalimantan Tengah, Indonesia - Volunteer with orphaned and ex-captive Orangutans. Duties involved acting as a surrogate parent to orphaned orangutans and accompanying them to the forest as part of their rehabilitation.
- Field School, Monkey River Belize-Study of the Behavioural Ecology of Alouatta pigra (The Belizian Black Howler). University of Calgary, Directed by Dr. Mary Pavelka. My duties included the collection of behavioural and ecological data on a group of howler monkeys in this research area as well as the collection of forest ecology data as part of a long-term research project.
2001 - Research Assistant on research project studying the Intestinal Parasites of Orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus) headed by Dr. Mark Skinner, Simon Fraser University. My duties included library research and liaising with collaborators.
1999 - Archaeology Field School Sigatoka Fiji Co-Sponsored by the Fiji National Museum. My duties included aiding in the survey, excavation and recording of archaeological sites in Fiji.
